VICTORY IN EUROPE - 1940s Weekend. on Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th April 2008 sees the Churnet Valley Railway in Staffordshire hold its ever popular 1940s weekend. Last years event saw a record number of visitors enjoying the exceptionally fine weather at what as become one of the biggest events on our railways calendar. This year event promises to be better than ever with the emphasis on what peace meant to thousands of families separated by war. Military vehicle displays, 1940s entertainers, V E Day Celebratory Shows, Military hospital displays. Home guard on parade, Military marching bands plus new for this year a Night time troop train special service bringing the boys back home with music and hot food at Cheddleton Station all this plus much more will all go to make this a date for your diary. Weekend Highlights

Around 150 re-enactors both military and civilian will help you experience life as it was during World War II. Visit a 1940s general store, toy shop and kitchen. Experience an air raid and take cover in our shelter. Sing along to the classic songs of the 1940s with Tricia Dibb. Kids can make a gas mask, supervised by the Royal Gunpowder Mills Education Team. Take a Land Train guided tour of the Mills (subject to availability). Test your skill at the Airsoft shooting range. Shop for goods at our Traders stalls. Each day ends with a 'live firing' battle.

2008 BUNKER BASH organised by the The Essex Armour and Softskins at the Kelvedon Hatch Secret Nuclear Bunker, Ongar Road, Brentwood, Essex on the 17th-18th May 2008. This is our 3rd Military Vehicle & Living History Show to be held at this unique Cold-War location. There will be a full range of military vehicles on display, from early Staff Cars and Softskin Vehicles to Post-War Armour. The show will open on both days with the Garrison Living History Group putting on a Firepower Display with their 25 pounder Field Gun & Full Gun Crew in the arena. The Garrison will also end the show each day with 5 rounds fired from the Field Gun. THE 5th HORNBY CASTLE MILITARY WEEKEND from the 30th May - 1st June 2008, South Cumbria and North Lancs. MVT. This is held in the beautiful surroundings of Hornby Castle, about 8 miles east of Lancaster on the A683. This is mostly '40s war time displays of vehicles, re-enactment and living history, but open to all aspects of history re-enactment, ancient and modern. a 1940s Weekend and Dance at Dover on June 14 and 15 organised by the Hellfire Corner Association.This free public entry show includes civilian and military vehicles, 1940s house, Fashion show, exhibition tent, NAAFI van, trade stalls, living history displays and two complete days of wartime entertainment on the bandstand The Cinque Ports Lindy Hoppers will also be performing.
On the Saturday evening we are holding a dance to the Jeff Short band (fully uniformed) in the Dover Town Hall which has remained unchanged since before the war. The atmosphere created by the suitably dressed  participants plus the decorated hall is magic! A licenced bar is available and the ticket price of £19.50 includes food which at the time of writing, looks like being bangers and mash plus a suitable pudding.

MAIDEN NEWTON AT WAR 1940’s themed weekend. Maiden Newton is in West Dorset, England. We will be running a weekend of 1940’s themed events on Friday 20th, Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd June 2008. There will be a sing along dance on the Friday evening with various activities during Saturday and Sunday including the official opening with the sounding of an Air Raid Siren, exhibitions of memorabilia, local and trade stalls, children’s games (1940s style), WWII Re-enactor group skirmish and battle each day, street party, radio plays and many more 1940’s attractions and events. Saturday evening we will be hosting an open air concert with AJ’s Swing Band. We are encouraging our visitors to attend via public transport if possible, Maiden Newton is served by both bus and rail routes. Cost for the weekend are £5.00 for the Friday evening dance. £5.00 adult and £3.00 child per day for the main event including the battle. £10.00 for the open air concert on the Saturday Evening. RAMSEY 1940s WEEKEND - Every year for one weekend in August, Ramsey takes a trip back in time as it returns to the 1940s to remember the sights and sounds of this historic era. This year will be no different and on the 16th & 17th August 2008, Ramsey will celebrate all things Forties. The highlight of this trip down memory lane is Saturday's 1940s dance, held in one of RAF Upwood's old aircraft hangars. There you can dance the night away to an authentic big band sound. The event is dedicated to 315th troop carrier group and the Paratroopers of the American 82nd Airborne division,the British 4th parachute brigade who flew  into Arnhem and Nijmegan. Arnhem battle Re-enactments, Military vehicles and much more.

ALL OUR YESTERDAYS on Fri Oct 3rd-Sun Oct 5th 2008 inclusive Sand Bay Holiday Village Kewstoke Nr Weston Super Mare. This is another version of our superb nostalgia show featuring The George Thorby Big Band playing the music of Glenn Miller and other great bands of yesteryear. Whilst mainly the 1940's and earlier this is a show with a difference because it features 50's hit maker Craig Douglas with musical arrangements all adapted to suit a Glenn Miller style band. Also appearing will be Just The Two Of Us & Chris Knott. There is over 3 and a half hours entertainment every night plus organised events by the entertainment team during the day.
